KITCHENAID OVEN

Service was absolutely atrocious. Guy shows up at 7am and proceeds to tell me that the only solution to the F2E1 error on my less than two year old KitchanAid wall oven is to replace an $800 control panel. I said I understand that the panel likely needs to be replaced but I want to actually find the cause of the problem which is steam infiltrating the panel as opposed to just replace the part and wait for it to happen again. His response was we can’t do anything else. Refused to even look at my oven to see if there were any underlying issues: leaking flue, fan problems, loose connections, blocked vents, etc. Just kept repeating to me that “F2E1 error is replace control panel”. There is clearly a defective design or part with this oven and clearly it is more profitable for your company to replace control panels for $800 plus labor and visit cost multiple times rather than actually doing the work to fix the underlying problem the first time. On top of I was told by KitchenAid when I scheduled the appointment with them that the visit would be covered under my warranty and potentially the repair itself if the technician agreed it was a defective panel. Your employee claimed to know nothing about any of this and said KitchenAid must have lied to me. Even better he came here knowing what the issue was and that there was only a single solution: replace control panel and did not even bother to bring one with him. He expected me to agree to his ridiculous repair estimate and then take another day off work and pay again to have someone come back and install the part. The entire thing was a colossal waste of my time and I am stuck with a non-functional oven a week before Christmas.
While we understand your frustration, fault codes are built in to the appliance controls to allow us to determine the failed part(s) or malfunction. There is no way to know what the "root cause" of the failure is. As for Kitchen Aid telling you it would be covered; if they were extending the warranty on your oven, it would be in their database, which it was not. So, the technician is correct in quoting you the cost of the repairs, as we have no other directive to dispute that. The control panels are expensive and although we try to have parts on hand, prior to visiting your home, pre-ordering an item of that expense, without the customer's ok, is not something we can, or will do, without knowing that the customer is willing to fix it.
