The Maytag 24” Front Control Dishwasher with Dual Power Filtration and PowerBlast® Cycle (Model: MDB4949SKZ) should be installed correctly to ensure safe and effective operation. This simplified guide walks you through the basic installation steps.


Tools and Parts Needed

Tools:

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • Level
  • Measuring tape
  • Pliers
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Hole saw (for cabinet openings)
  • Tubing cutter (if modifying the water line)

Parts:

  • 90° elbow fitting (3/8″ NPT)
  • Teflon tape or thread sealant
  • UL-approved strain relief (for electrical wiring)
  • Wire nuts
  • Hot water supply line (3/8″ copper or braided steel)
  • Drain hose clamp
  • Electrical cable (for hardwiring)

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Prepare the Cabinet

  • Ensure the cabinet opening is at least 24″ wide, 24″ deep, and 34–35″ high.
  • Drill holes for the drain hose, water supply, and power cable.

2. Unpack the Dishwasher

  • Remove packaging and all internal shipping materials.
  • Leave the sound insulation blanket attached.

3. Attach the 90° Elbow

  • Wrap Teflon tape around the elbow fitting threads.
  • Connect the elbow to the dishwasher’s water inlet (pointing it toward the back).

4. Connect Water Supply Line

  • Attach your hot water line to the elbow fitting.
  • Route the line through the cabinet but do not connect to the shutoff valve yet.

5. Install the Drain Hose

  • Secure the hose to the dishwasher’s drain port.
  • Route the hose through the cabinet to your sink drain or disposal.
  • Ensure a high loop at least 32″ off the floor to prevent backflow.

6. Level the Dishwasher

  • Adjust leveling legs to make the unit level from front to back and side to side.
  • Use a level to check alignment.

7. Slide Dishwasher into Place

  • Carefully push the dishwasher into the cabinet.
  • Ensure all hoses and wires remain free and untangled.

8. Secure the Dishwasher

  • Use the mounting brackets to attach the unit to the countertop or cabinet sides.
  • Make sure the door is aligned with the cabinet front.

9. Electrical Connections

For Hardwiring:

  • Turn off power at the breaker.
  • Remove terminal box cover.
  • Install strain relief.
  • Connect black to black (hot), white to white (neutral), and green to ground screw.
  • Use wire nuts and replace cover.

For Plug-In:

  • Plug into a grounded 120V outlet.
  • Never use extension cords or adapters.

10. Connect Water Supply

  • Attach water line to shutoff valve.
  • Turn on the valve and check for leaks.

11. Final Checks

  • Turn on the power.
  • Run a short test cycle to check for leaks, noise, and correct function.
