While it’s always irritating when an appliance doesn’t work, error codes are actually a pretty useful tool. Prior to error codes becoming commonly used, if your Frigidaire oven wasn’t working, you’d have had absolutely no idea why.
Error codes help you pinpoint the source of the problem and hopefully allow you to implement a fix—or at least help you figure out whether you need a professional. Our guide has the meanings of all the common Frigidaire oven error codes, so the next time one shows up on your screen, you’ll be covered!
This guide refers to all common models of Frigidaire ovens, including:

1. Error Code – (dash) – Locked Cooktop
If your Frigidaire oven is displaying a dash symbol, this means the cooktop is locked. This is a feature designed to prevent children from using the cooktop or to prevent settings from being changed accidentally. Sometimes it’s possible to activate this setting mistakenly, but thankfully it’s an easy fix:
- Press the OFF button
- Hold it down for six full seconds
- The dash symbol will disappear and you’ll once again be able to use the cooktop as normal.
2. Error Code F1 – Shorted Touchpad
This code indicates an electrical failure, usually in the touchpad. Frequently, this error code appears as a result of a power surge or glitch and can be cleared by performing a hard reset on your Frigidaire oven. To do this:
- Disconnect your oven from the power supply by flipping the circuit breaker that corresponds to the oven outlet.
- Leave your oven without power for ten minutes.
- Reconnect the power
- Check if the error code has cleared. If it remains, there may be an underlying electrical issue and you’ll need to get a technician to take a look.
3. Error Codes F7, F8, and F9 – Oven Door Lock Failure
These codes mean that an issue has been detected with the door locking mechanism. The door lock is needed during a self-cleaning cycle as temperatures during this time become dangerously hot. To fix this code:
- Carefully inspect the locking mechanism.
- If you see any debris or foreign objects obstructing the mechanism, clear them away and check to see if the error code resolves.
- If the locking mechanism appears to be damaged, it will need to be replaced.
4. Error Code F10 – Thermal Runaway
This code indicates the internal temperature of your oven is higher than it should be, which usually means there’s a problem with the oven temperature sensor. If this occurs:
- Give your oven a chance to cool down. Disconnect it from the power source and wait for it to cool for half an hour.
- If the error code recurs, there’s likely an underlying fault—probably with the temperature sensor.
- Use a multimeter to test the temperature sensor for continuity.
- If the sensor is non-functioning, it will need to be completely replaced as it can’t be repaired. You can either purchase a replacement part or call in a professional to replace the part.
5. F12 – Micro Identification
Frigidaire refers to the F12 error code as a ‘micro identification’ error, and advises the following to resolve the issue:
- Disconnect the power to your Frigidaire oven for 30 seconds.
- Restore power and see if the issue is resolved.
- If this doesn’t fix the issue, contact your installer or contact Frigidaire directly.
6. F13 – E Prompt Failure
This error indicates a problem with the main control board. If this error occurs, first try a reset by disconnecting and then reconnecting the power. If the error recurs, call in a technician or get in contact with Frigidaire.
7. F3 / F20 / F26 / – Communication Error
This error indicates an internal communication error in your Frigidaire oven. If this occurs, first reset the oven by disconnecting the power for 30 seconds and then reconnecting. You can do this either by unplugging the unit or by flipping the circuit breaker to the off position and then flipping it back on.
If this doesn’t work to resolve the error code, try contacting a technician. This is a complex electrical issue that’s beyond the scope of what most DIYers can do.
8. F30 – Open Probe and F31 – Shorted Probe
This error code is similar to the overheating code, but it specifically applies to an issue with the oven’s temperature sensor probe. If resetting your oven doesn’t solve the issue, it means you’ll need to replace the sensor. You can purchase a compatible replacement part online and install it with help from your Frigidaire manual. Make sure your oven is disconnected from the power source when completing any repairs.
9. F40 / F41 – Cooktop Lockout
This code indicates a miscommunication between your Frigidaire oven’s display control board and the cooktop lockout control board. If resetting doesn’t clear the error, then you may need to either replace the cooktop control board or rewire the control board. These are relatively complex electrical tasks, so only attempt if you have electrical experience. Otherwise, call a professional.
10. F90 / F91 / F92 / F93 / F94 – Door Lock Issue
These faults indicate an issue with the oven door lock. In many instances, pressing the cancel button will clear this error. But if not, you can try resetting the oven. Disconnect it from the power source for 30 seconds and then restore power to see if the issue has been resolved. If the issue recurs the next time you use the self-clean function, there may be an underlying problem. You either call in a technician to resolve the issue.
